Bereavement and Support Services
When a life ends, the living are left to grieve. Bereavement support is a key component of hospice care at Wayside and we offer compassionate help through periodic support groups, volunteer outreach and monthly mailings.
The adult bereavement support program is open to both Wayside Hospice families and general members of the community who are grieving a close family member. It is led by a Hospice Social Worker and Bereavement Coordinator.

Helping Young Hearts Heal
HEART play sm is Wayside Hospice’s free, award-winning program that uses the creative arts to help children ages 3-12 cope with and understand the illness or death of a loved one.

The Healing Garden
Located adjacent to the Wayside Hospice Residence on Green Way in Wayland, the peaceful Dora Efthim Healing Garden is a place of quiet and reflection. Given in memory of his sister by Wayland residents William Efthim and his wife Mavis, the Garden’s design is based on a Native American medicine wheel and has the sculpture, Rain Catcher, at its center.
A permanent marker instructs the visitor, and the names engraved in memorial plaques urge us to remember those who have gone before. Each loved one’s name represents a $1,000 Memorial Contribution to the Healing Garden.
Donate to the Healing Garden
The Healing Garden is open to the public, which is invited to participate in events held there including the beautiful Lights of Remembrance Ceremony each November.
