To enjoy the comforts of home… to be with family… to be free from pain… to make one’s own decisions about life and death… these are the gifts of Hospice.

Parmenter’s Wayside Hospice medical director and team of nurses, aides, social workers, therapists, spiritual staff and specially trained volunteers are dedicated to meeting the needs of the terminally ill. The patient, his or her physician, loved ones and the Wayside team plan Hospice care together. The patient’s wishes are carried out with compassion, consideration and caring.

Patients may begin their care with Parmenter as a Hospice patient or a Home Health Care patient. With the Parmenter Home Health to Hospice Care Continuum, the same nurses and aides who cared for patients during their earlier stages of illness can, when necessary, follow the patients through their final stages of life.

Hospice is ideally provided in the comfort and familiarity of the patient’s own home. When that is either impractical or impossible, the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence offers a home-like alternative to hospital or nursing home care. Following the patient’s passing, bereavement and support services are available to the grieving. Wherever the journey takes us, we’ll all take it together.

How to make a hospice referral

1. Call 508-358-3000 ext. 255 any time day or night to make a referral.

2. Upon referral approval, we contact the patient’s physician and confirm details of insurance coverage. (Medicare, Medicaid and most managed care and private insurers cover in-home Hospice care. Additional Hospice Residence fees are often covered by insurance or paid privately.

3. Within 24 hours in most cases a Hospice nurse or social worker will visit the patient, evaluate needs, provide Hospice care information and/or prepare a personal care plan, and initiate service.
