Volunteer Opportunities

The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others. - DeAnn Hollis

There is much to do at Parmenter.  Our compassionate staff of professionals serves the residents of our many local communities; at home, in their neighborhoods and at our facilities.  Our staff could not accomplish it all and enable us to grow without the kindness and generosity of our dedicated volunteers.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to the community, to make friends, enrich your life and share your skills and talents in productive and helpful ways.

Perhaps you’ll learn new things along the way. In fact, we offer training for some of our volunteer programs, such as Hospice.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Why not consider one of our current Volunteer Opportunities?  Email our Human Resources department or call 508-358-3000 x232 for more information.  For any volunteer positions (other than Hospice), it will be necessary to fill out our General Volunteer Application.   To volunteer for Hospice, please fill out the Hospice Volunteer Application. Administrative Support
Provide regular clerical assistance; helping with activiities such as mailings and office support activities.

Community Services and Events
Provide assistance with various local fundraising and outreach projects and special events which include:

  • Plaque Dedication

Every June we remember those who have been honored or memorialized by gifts of $1000 or more in the previous year. We hold a gathering and reception on a Sunday afternoon late in June.

  • Annual Service of Remembrance
In September, we offer an interfaith, ecumenical gathering open to all with music, prayers, readings, candle-lighting and a reading of the year’s names from the Book of Remembrance.
  • Clergy Events
Clergy may be the first point of contact to identify resources for those in need of long term, palliative or Hospice care. Every year we reach out to the clergy in our area to offer educational programs and, for new clergy to the area, an opportunity to learn more about Parmenter.
  • Lights of Remembrance
Purchase a symbolic light "in honor of" or "in memory of" a loved one and have your loved one listed in our Lights of Remembrance Memory Keepsake Book. The lights will remain lit throughout the winter months - please visit any time.
  • Holiday Concert
The Holiday Concert held at the Weston Golf Club is a wonderful seasonal event that benefits the Hospice . The program, the luncheon and the company are truly something to look forward as the days shorten. It is a festive event not to be missed!
  • Auction 2013 Bidding begins on Monday, April 1 at 8:00 AM.  Keep the bidding going until Wednesday, May 1 at 8:00 PM and support Parmenter's good works throughout MetroWest!

PLUS:  Join us for our Online Auction Finale with Susan Wornick on Wednesday, May 1 at the Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord.

  • Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
Each year, we honor our many volunteers with a luncheon.  It’s our way of saying thank you for all of the hours you give.

Food Pantry
Shop, organize or deliver groceries to Wayland residents in need.

Hospice Volunteers
Direct service Hospice volunteers work with patients and their loved ones to offer comfort and support during the time of a terminal illness and following the death in bereavement. Care is provided in patient homes in the community and in the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence.

Friends of the Garden

Because the Dora Efthim Healing Garden is open to the public throughout the year, Friends of the Garden are dedicated to nurturing and supporting the Garden in a variety of ways. Friends provide  summer and fall maintenance and help to extend invitations to community groups to use the Garden for gatherings. Friends also assist with the annual Remembrance Plaque Dedication and Lights of Remembrance ceremonies held in the Garden by helping with set-up, providing baked goods, and serving as greeters.
